RSPB St Aidan’s

Another visit out to ST Aidan’s, this time with a few friends, main target again was the Firecrest, and after the last two visit’s, this time I got great view’s, although the bird was again very mobile and moving quickly thru the bushes, which was once again very difficult to to obtain a photo. Other birds in the area were Blackbird, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long tailed Tit and Redpoll.

Onto the reserve then to find the Slavonian Grebe, which apparently was on the western reedbed, after a little searching, I picked up the grebe in a group of three birds, the other two being Black necked Grebes. Other birds in the location were Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Pochard, Teal, Black headed Gulls, Herring Gulls, Lesser Black backed Gulls, Grey Heron, Shoveler, Great Egret, and booming Bitterns.

It was then a walk towards the visitor centre, seeing a couple of Red Kites, Buzzard, Kestrel, Skylark, hearing Cetti’s Warbler, Canada Geese, the Little Owl at the dragline was a no show today, at the feeders were Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting, Blue Tit and Great Tit.

After coffee and cake, it was back to the Firecrest site, but it was a no show on this occasion
