A lovely sunny day, and warm, no gloves today, I was hoping today for a few insects. I started at the feeders, a Chiffchaff was calling overhead, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Reed Bunting and Dunnock were all seen, I then moved off towards the Reedbed Hide.
On arrival I found the hide full, so I stayed outside, only highlight was a male Marsh Harrier flying thru, no Bearded Tits around, so I made my back, catching sight of a few Peacock butterflies and a few Small Tortoiseshells.
I had a little time in the Bittern Hide, overlooking the mere, seeing various Gull species Black headed Gulls, Common Gulls, Herring Gulls and Lesser Black backed Gulls with Little and Great Crested Grebes, Greylag and Canada Geese, Grey Heron and Mute Swans with five distant Buzzards.
After dinner I ventured down to the Green Loop, catching sight of a Comma butterfly, around the lookout hide, with Gorse Shieldbugs sunny themselves, there were also a few found down on Green Lane, along with Honey Bees, and Common Wasps. There wasn’t much from Wath Ings hide, so I went onto the Wader Scrape hide where there were a few Goosanders (2♂, 3♀), also a single Curlew, back near the visitor centre a single Brimstone butterfly
